Engaging in deadly battles with giant insectoid aliens is not on the schedules of most teenagers, but for Rico, Carmen and Carl, it is par for the course in this animated science fiction TV program. Having decided to enlist rather than stick around high school any longer, this trio of friends was determined to find exploration and adventure. Little did they know, the first interstellar war was about to erupt, and they would become members of the elite Roughnecks, led by Lieutenant Razak and sent to foreign planets to face the aliens on their own turf. Though armed to the teeth with an advanced anti-arthropod arsenal, they are menaced at every moment by the fearsome creatures, and meanwhile the kids must also deal with the difficulties of adolescence.
