Something of a swan song for Sonic on his native Sega's Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure 2 gets a fresh start as the title comes to Nintendo's GameCube. In addition to the open-ended 3D platforming and high-speed adventure offered the original Dreamcast release, the GameCube's Sonic Adventure 2 Battle offers additional features, refined presentation, and an entirely new mode of two-person play.<br><br>The hurried hedgehog is joined by some of his old friends in this release. Knuckles shows up to offer his spunky brand of action and attitude. The nefarious and enduring Dr. Robotnik makes an appearance too, but the real villain in this adventure may be its newest character, Shadow, a dark, mysterious hedgehog whose speed and abilities might even rival those of Sonic himself.<br><br>The GameCube's Sonic Adventure 2 Battle features 12 playable characters in all, including Amy Rose, Metal Sonic, and Chaos Zero. In addition to the branching story of the adventure mode two players can also compete in the game's battle mode, which features a variety of racing and treasure-hunting challenges. As one of the first releases to support interconnectivity between the Cube and the Game Boy Advance, the game also brings VMU-style Chao-raising to Nintendo handheld gamers.
