Stop an invading attack at your fingertips with Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on your Nintendo 64. A UFO shaped like a peach has attacked the Oedo Castle. The goal of the invaders is to turn feudal Japan into a stage and its inhabitants into performers. You'll take control of Ganbare Goemon or any of his three friends in this adventure to save Japan. At its core, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is a game that involves a lot of exploring. You'll traverse a 3D map, visit towns, and investigate dungeons. In each of these dungeons is a weapon that allows you to access new parts of the map. For example, an ice beam will let you put out fires that previously blocked your path. You'll also find health upgrades, new weapons, and piles of money as you explore. However, this is where the similarities end as this title branches off from established conventions.Mystical Ninja gives you control of four different characters: Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke, and Yae. While you control each of these characters the same way, they all have unique abilities. For example, Yae can dive underwater to find hidden passages while Ebisumaru can crawl into very tight spots. You'll need to successfully use the abilities of all four characters if you want to complete the game. In Mystical Ninja, not even a town is a safe spot. You'll frequently have to contend with thieves, so always be on the lookout. When outside of towns, the gameplay more closely resembles that of a platforming title rather than one in the role-playing genre. Goemon and his friends can jump on the heads of enemies or smash them with a weapon. You'll quickly appreciate the sense of humor in this game. Mystical Ninja is a self-aware game, meaning that many times, the cast knows they are in a game. Goemon and his friends will frequently break the fourth wall by pointing out video gaming tropes. They'll also lampoon the fact that a particular sequence was in past games in the series. Konami did an excellent job translating Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. Even though it was originally designed for Japanese audiences, the jokes were rewritten to make sense to U.S. audiences. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is a beautiful game for the Nintendo 64. It takes full advantage of the system's hardware to create vast, sprawling environments. These environments are full of detail, such as individual leaves on a tree. The character and enemy models also spring to life with colorful, vibrant looks. The bosses are huge, often towering far above the heads of the player. You'll need every trick in the book to beat these enormous beasts. No matter how much action is on the screen, this Nintendo 64 game performs and functions wonderfully.This video game combines humor with fun action and tight controls to create an enthralling experience. This Konami game is one of the hidden gems for this console and is a worthwhile addition to your collection.
