Synopsis
A Scottish town on the Sound of Sleat was a major inspiration to John Schueler, the American abstract expressionist painter whose autobiography offers a fascinating look at the New York art world in the latter half of this century. 48 photos, 16 in color., The remarkable autobiography of an American artist's dreams, passions, and work As an American abstract expressionist painter and early protege of Leo Castelli, Jon Schueler lived and worked among the country's most gifted artists: Clyfford Still, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning, Jasper Johns, and many others. Schueler was mysteriously driven to connect nature with a deeply personal passion. In the late 1950s, he travelled for the first time to Mallaig, a town in western Scotland on the Sound of Sleat, where the dramatic landscapeinspired his art and continued to influence him throughout his career. Over nearly thirty years, as he painted, Schueler worked on this book. In it, he struggled to define what it was that compelled him to paint and wrestled with a conflict that confronts all artists - how to strike a balance between the need to create in solitude and the desire for human intimacy. The Sound of Sleat tells the story of a passionate life and offers a fascinating look at the New York art world in the latter half of this century and an astonishing window on art, hope, despair, and creativity.

- g***i (72)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimo annoAcquisto verificatoPackage was a little slow in shipping initially, so I contacted the seller and they graciously upgraded the shipping to 2-day. The book got here quickly and it was in the "new" condition that was claimed. You often learn the most about people when they are challenged and have the opportunity to either rise to the challenge, or not. So in that respect, they passed the test with flying colors. All in all a good experience, thank you.sendmail, 4th Edition Costales, Bryan; Assmann, Claus; Jansen, George and Shapir (N° 256433747936)

- 5***1 (9)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimo annoAcquisto verificatoI actually had to return the item as the picture and the description did not match. There was nothing wrong with the item. It was just a different book than we thought it was. The seller was wonderful to work with. There was no hesitation to refund it when we figured out what went wrong. I would strongly recommend this seller.AISC Manual of Steel Construction: Load and Resistance Factor Design, Third Edit (N° 266891172622)
