It was a new set of very heavy stoneware, re-boxed, so perhaps the manufacturer takes some credit? I think the value was very fair, as the cost of dishware has soared, plus this pattern is no longer available. It is exactly as described. I received a service of 8 as a gift from my late mother, so I was interested in replacing pieces broken by my children over the years. Great job, Mr. Eccentric!
