CyberMage: Darklight Awakening takes you straight from the pages of a cyberpunk comic book and deposits you directly into a futuristic world (21st century) in which the government has broken down and mega corporations compete for technology and power. This first-person shooter has elements of action, adventure and exploration as you, an everyday guy suddenly turned novice superhero, come face-to-face with the insidious and evil NeCrom, a supernatural being and master of the Darklight.<br><br>In order to even the odds a bit against NeCrom, corporate kingpin M. Katt provides you with an alien Darklight gem implant that gives you immense power -- if you can master its use. As you explore the futuristic world in search of your nemesis, you'll encounter other important characters beyond M. Katt and NeCrom. Is the bikini-clad Firemother, an enigmatic and mysterious creature who rules the Unholy Zones, friend or foe? Or where does the Earthmother, combination psychic adept and counselor to the bewildered, fit into the story?<br><br>The game supports several types of input including joystick, keyboard and mouse. As you adventure, your inventory becomes stocked with a wide array of weaponry to help in your quest to eliminate NeCrom. Weapons include hand-to-hand items such as the powerblade, razor axe, shock mace and Darklight Foil with a semi-automatic laser pistol, plasma gun, rocket gun, blaster and fusion gun. There's also automatic weapons including the heavy blaster and SMG and additional throwing grenades and hover bombs.<br><br>Adding to the mix are special powers such as the star bolt, pain wave, psifire, lunalight, nova, and more, all powers of destruction and disorientation. Special items are found throughout the world including passes, holo-vid disks (data-storage devices), armor sealant, health regeneration kits, and money. Armor consists of various protections, such as helmets, torso, gloves, boots, and a bodysuit. <br><br>To traverse the world of CyberMage, you'll learn to control several types of vehicles including tanks, aircars and a jump jet. Environments include locales where you'll need to swim, crouch, climb, fall, and run. Onscreen video display units (VDUs) help you track the status of your health, power, ammunition, cash, and armor. CyberMage: Darklight Awakening also includes an electronic nine-chapter manual and automapping.
