Complete with a palette of artist-quality watercolors, and the inspiration and encouragement of renowned illustrator Thacher Hurd., Als dieses Buch im Januar 2000 in erster Auflage erschien, war Alexander Kluge vor allem als Fernsehautor prasent. Seine letzte literarische Veroffentlichung lag 23 Jahre zuruck, sein letzter Film war 1986 in die Kinos gekommen. Wohl niemand hatte damit gerechnet, dass dieser Autor wieder zu einer der zentralen Figuren der bundesdeutschen Kulturszene werden wurde. Im Herbst des Jahres erschien dann die zweibandige Chronik der Gefuhle, ein fulminantes Comeback als Schriftsteller; ein Jahr spater folgte das philosophische Gesamtwerk von Negt/Kluge unter dem Titel Der unterschatzte Mensch. Seither veroffentlicht Kluge beinahe jedes Jahr ein neues Buch. Seine Kinofilme und Fernsehproduktionen liegen inzwischen in mehreren DVD-Editionen vor. Aus heutiger Sicht zieht dieses Buch eine Art Zwischenbilanz. Es kommentiert in exemplarischen Untersuchungen Kluges Werk aus der zweiten Halfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts. Die thematisch und methodisch heterogenen Beitrage befragen Kluges Textstrategien und die intermedialen Beziehungen zwischen Literatur, Film, Fernsehen, Theorie und Gesprach, jenen Feldern also, die einem der komplexesten uvres der Gegenwart seine inkommensurable Form geben.
