Synopsis
First published by Abrams in 1985 in conjunction with an exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, "In the American West" is being reissued to accompany a 20th-anniversary re-showing of the exhibition at the same museum., Richard Avedon's "In the American West" is widely regarded as a landmark project in photographic history and a definitive expression of the power of photographic art. First published by Abrams in 1985 in conjunction with an exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, the book is being reissued to accompany a 20th-anniversary re-showing of the exhibition at the same museum. Avedon, who died in 2004, was the greatest American photographer of his generation. For "In the American West," he traveled throughout five years, meeting and photographing the plain people of the West: ranch workers, roustabouts, bar girls, drifters, and gamblers. The resulting book includes 120 exquisitely printed black-and-white photographs, an essay by Avedon on his working methods and portrait philosophy, a journal of the project by Laura Wilson, and a new foreword by John Rohrbach. The reissuing of this legendary book, out of print for more than a decade, is a major event in the photography world., Avedon's In the American West was a large-scale project intended to create a portrait of Americans of the West. The photographer traveled for five years meeting and photographing the people of the West - ranch workers, roustabouts, bar girls, drifters, and gamblers. He focused on men and women who worked at hard, uncelebrated jobs and lead unheralded lives. When the work was exhibited at the Amon Carter Museum, a reporter at the local paper wrote, this is not our West. The show was controversial and remains so. The book includes an essay by Avedon on his working methods and portrait philosophy, as well as a journal of the project by Laura Wilson. The new edition also includes a brief foreword by John Rohrbach, senior curator of photographs at the Amon Carter Museum, but is otherwise unchanged from the original book.

- b***i (137)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoTrusted seller. I believe the book was a very fair price for it's fine condition. It was packaged well and shipped. My minor issues were that there was a complete lack of communication, but I don't take offense to this, in the world of used booksellers, this is usually just common nature, unfortunately, and the other is that no tracking was provided. I received what I paid for, that's all that matters. Overall, I'm satisfied and I'd do business again if they have a book I'm looking for.
