The problem is the actual item: the CD tray has a rough raised circle on both sides (caused during manufacture) at the right height to scratch disc surfaces (yes, it does - I've tested it!). The only solution is to stick little labels over them. This is the same issue I've recently had with this item purchased from other sellers, so it is the current method of manufacture / finishing which is at fault.
