The VG224 paves the way for your organization to operate in a more efficient and cost-effective manner without the need to spend and rebuild your entire phone networking infrastructure from scratch. With its built-in support for media gateway control protocol (MGCP), session initiation protocol (SIP), and skinny client control protocol (SCCP), your system is guaranteed high availability with less downtime. You may find yourself in several circumstances where there is a necessity for continued use of your existing analog devices after upgrading to Internet protocol (IP) telephony. These situations may include having budget constraints during migration, complying with industry regulations, adapting to environmental conditions, or meeting requirements for lighter information technology infrastructure. The VG224 is the ideal solution to address these problems. By providing support for analog devices, this unit enables you to still take full advantage of your present investments. The VG224 is part of the Cisco Voice Gateways series of Cisco IOS software-based products, with its operating system embedded in flash memory. Designed to provide high-density deployments of up to 24 ports, this type of hardware can connect analog phones, speaker phones, modems and fax machines to an enterprise voice over IP (VoIP) system. This setup allows you to utilize your analog devices as supplementary features of your Cisco or third-party VoIP call-control system. The 24 foreign exchange station (FXS) voice ports of the VG224 come with two fast Ethernet 10/100BASE-T for connections to local area networks. Its chassis includes power inputs for direct current and alternating current, a slot for inserting an external compact flash memory card, and 24 RJ-21 FXS interfaces. These FXS ports are designed for connections to a distribution panel, analog phone, modem, or fax. This unit is also equipped with a console port that enables you to interface with an American standard code for information interchange (ASCII) terminal or personal computer. Its integrated auxiliary port lets you connect to a modem. Interfacing with the Cisco Voice Gateway 224 is pretty straightforward and can be executed in three different ways. You can either hook up an ASCII terminal or personal computer and gain local administrative access through the console port or you can set up a remote access to the gateway via the auxiliary port and modem. You also have the option to connect to the device with the use of Telnet or trivial file transfer protocol. Once a connection has been established, configuring this device is simple and easy. If the VG224 is bundled with the simple network-enabled auto-provision (SNAP) option, automatic download of configuration files is enabled. Once the gateway is turned on and connected to a terminal, it will be up and running in minutes. Otherwise, you must manually configure the Voice Gateway 224. You can appreciate the noise reduction feature of the VG224, which only emits 55 decibels at three-feet noise levels. Weighing in at only 11 pounds, this gateway unit is lightweight enough to carry and move from one place to another. Its compact form makes it easy to house in a rack, place on a benchtop surface, or mount on a wall. Just ensure that you install this device in a restricted area where only authorized personnel can access it.     Pictures were misleading. They showed chargers and antennas. We asked in advance and seller said all radios were good. Received with (3) chargers missing, (2) belt clips missing, (1) antenna missing and (3) bad batteries. Additionally, he purposely made money on shipping which you aren't supposed to do. You're supposed to charge the actual shipping charges. We contacted him and he couldn't be bothered to reply. Steer clear of this seller.
