My ECU code analyser indicated it was either the thermostat or the temperature sensor, both original units. As neither were expensive I changed both. The sensor turned out to be the culprit. The new sensor looks identical to the original, was a fraction of the VW price and works perfectly. Job done. Very happy with product & seller.
