Turns out their water which I thought was softened had just been conditioned through magnetism! (For a fraction of the price.) We instantly noticed luxuriant soapy bubbles in the washing up so the effect is instant. Once I had found a straight couple of inches of pipe it just snaps in place. Fit and forget, job done.
