This plug-and-play gigabit switch works right out-of-the-box. Just plug it into a power source, turn it on, connect your devices and enjoy a high-speed local area network (LAN) within minutes. Unlike wireless networks, which can be prone to security risks and are more expensive to implement and manage, wired connections provide greater reliability and faster data transfer rates for a LAN. Plus, Ethernet cabling can extend up to 330 feet without any loss in transmission quality. This is ideal when your devices can be placed close to the JGS524. Instead of going the Wi-Fi route, running a physical cable to connect your hardware to the switch is more beneficial. The JGS524 model comes from the NetGear ProSafe product series of gigabit Ethernet unmanaged switches. This high-density device includes 24 ports to give you plenty of connectivity options. Link up to 24 devices to your LAN, including desktop computers, printers, gaming consoles, servers, and storage, with each port capable of delivering data at 10 times the speed of fast Ethernet or up to 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps). At full-duplex mode, this unit is even faster, with connection speeds at up to 2,000 Mbps. Integrated with auto-switching and auto-sensing mechanisms, each port automatically detects the appropriate setting for an attached device to provide maximum performance. Coupled with the auto uplink technology, this gigabit switch instantly adjusts the type of Ethernet cable to use for the connected device, whether straight through or crossover. Compliant with several standards defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), this 24-port NetGear device is 802.3x-compliant, which provides support for automatic flow control to manage network traffic. Additionally, this gigabit unit has built-in quality of service, which facilitates voice and video prioritization to ensure bandwidth-intensive applications get higher priority than low-bandwidth tasks.
