Set after the events of the film Sponge Out of Water, SpongeBob HeroPants finds Bikini Bottom thrown into disarray as SpongeBob's dream begins coming to life. Players take control of the absorbent icon and his friends Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton as they try to restore order by using the superpowers bestowed upon them by Bubbles the Talking Dolphin. The action takes place in alternate versions of Bikini Bottom where gamers can join up to three friends for local co-op exploration, puzzle solving, boss battles, and character advancement.
