Product Information
Become a master of stealth with “Thief” for Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4). This game was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. “Thief” is a stealth single-player game that was released in February of 2014. This 2014 release is a reboot of the cult classic series of games of the same name. It is also available for PlayStation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360, and Xbox One gaming systems. This game is set in a dark fantasy world that simply goes by the name The City. In “”thief,” players act as Garrett, a master thief who embarks on several missions that revolve around stealing from the rich. Garrett is a solitary thief who lurks in the shadows and possesses a variety of skills that can be utilized throughout the game. The game begins with Garrett returning to The City after being away for quite some time. Upon his return, he has discovered it is now being ruled by a heinous dictator called the Baron. Citizens of The City are consumed by a plague, while the rich continue to live in prosperity in isolation from the rest. This scenario is just what motivates Garrett to pursue his life of thievery and use this situation to his advantage. Garrett connects with a former apprentice named Erin, and they have both accepted a job from their contact named Basso. Upon arrival to Baron Northcrest’s manor, the location of their job, they encounter a ritual taking place. Garrett’s intuition causes him to get a bad feeling about this situation and he wants to leave, but Erin is set on completing their mission. While attempting to clandestinely climb the roof, Erin falls through into the middle of the ritual. Rather than hitting the ground, Erin is stopped mid-air and surrounded by the ritual’s energy. Before Garrett can interpret the situation, he is hit by a fallen piece of the building and knocked out. He does not awake for a year, and The City has fallen into even deeper despair than before. From here, Garrett meets Orion, who is leading a resistance against the Baron’s tyranny, and embarks on various missions to bring The City back to harmony, as well as to determine what exactly happened to Erin after the ritual a year prior. “Thief” for PS4 leads players through the story to find justice and complete a multitude of missions. Although this game is not an open world setting, players have quite a bit of freedom throughout each stage of the game; there are a variety of routes within each level that players choose to take. Throughout each level, Garrett steals money and valuable loot that is used to purchase equipment and upgrades to assist him on his journey. Players enter a focus mode with Garrett, which allows him to have increased vision in order to illuminate areas to improve his stealthiness—such as pipes that can be climbed or candles that can be put out to make an area darker. It is essential that Garrett stick to the shadows in order to evade guards and track movements of other enemies. If he is spotted by these enemy characters, they attempt to hunt him down. Garrett carries a club weapon and a collapsible bow to knock out these characters along the way. He also has a claw that allows him to grapple onto higher ledges out of sight. Players must navigate with Garrett through the dark Victorian-themed streets of The City to find justice in what has turned into a melancholy world at the hands of an evil leader.
