Neben dem zeitlosen Design liefert die PENTAX K 500 Digitalkamera dank APS-C-CMOS-Sensors mit einer Auflösung von 16 Megapixeln eine überwältigende Bildqualität, die jederzeit und überall das Festhalten der schönsten Momente gewährleistet. Die Lichtempfindlichkeit ist dabei zwischen ISO 100 und 51200 regulierbar, sodass eine Bildaufnahme selbst bei schwachen Lichtverhältnissen in natürlich satten Farben gelingt. Zudem stellt der Fotoapparat mit einem Produktmaß von 12,9 x 9,6 x 7 cm sowie einem Gewicht von 650 g den idealen Begleiter für unterwegs dar. Mit dem integrierten Fernauslöser mit optionalem Kabel können Selbstportraits unkompliziert aufgenommen werden. Außerdem enthält das 3 Zoll-Display eine Livebild-Funktion, womit das Fotografieren aus ungewöhnlichen Perspektiven vereinfacht wird. Actiongeladene Szenen können dank der kurzen Verschlusszeit von nur 1/6000 Sekunden sowie eine hohe Reaktionszeit in atemberaubender Schärfe aufgenommen werden, sodass kein Erlebnis verloren geht. Ebenso eröffnen Aufnahmemodi mit diversen Effekten eine künstlerische Freiheit, womit ein spielerisches Experimentieren beim Fotografieren gegeben ist.
