Reviews
"For a reader new to the field of cephalopod behavior, and even those who have studied these fascinating creatures for years, this is a valuable information source. It is well written, organized and easy to read..." Jennifer A. Hoar, Quarterly Review of Biology, 'This is an excellent book and can be highly recommended ... It should find its way to the bookshelves of any biologist ... For its content, visual beauty, clarity, and passion - get yourself a copy now!' Dr Marek Lipinski, ICES Journal of Marine Science, 'This book is the first of its kind ... It opens up what will for most readers be a new world. And about time too.' Martin J. Wells, Trends in Ecology and Evolution, "...this is an excellent volume, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested either in cephalopods or behavior..." Michael Veccione, Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 'An exceptionally handsome book … highly recommended for its aesthetics as much for its science. Working with cephalopods is a joy and a challenge. Both the joy and the challenge are brought to life in this book … an excellent book for behaviourists interested in cephalopods from a comparative perspective …'. Synopsis
There are about 700 species of cephalopods (cuttlefishes, squids, octopuses and the chambered nautiluses) living throughout the seas of the world, some between the tides, others in the deep ocean, and yet others in the surface waters. Cephalopods are considered to be the most highly evolved marine invertebrates and possess elaborate sense organs, large brains and complex behaviour. This 1996 book examines that behaviour, summarizing field and laboratory data from a wide variety of sources in a comprehensive account of the life of cephalopods in their natural habitats. It surveys the way they find prey and escape predators, how they reproduce, how they learn and how they communicate using complex body patterns. Throughout it emphasizes the gaps in our knowledge in the hope of stimulating more biologists to study these beautiful and fascinating animals., There are about 700 species of cephalopods (cuttlefishes, squids, octopuses and the chambered nautiluses) living throughout the seas of the world. Book arrived exactly as described! Packing was nothing special with no extra protection, just in a fitted box. But it worked out just fine. Condition was exactly as pictured in the listing. Great seller!
