No instructions - the spring will catch on the lip of the tool, just put both items on the tip at the same time. Either I got lucky and it worked, or this thing really does help. Cannot complain, it seems well made and cheaper than a $150 or more plumber visit. I used liquid soap to help lube the seat and any other items I replaced. I know this is less an item review and more instructive, but why not.
