This book covers the development and operational careers of the three German jet types that went into action: the Messerschmitt Me 163, the Messerschmitt Me 262 and the Arado Ar 234. It also includes jet combat aircraft types built by other nations. There are chapters on the development and World War II operational careers of the British Gloster Meteor fighter and the Japanese Okha rocket powered piloted suicide weapon. One chapter covers the development of jet types that went into full production and would have seen action had the war continued a little longer: the American Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star and the Ryan FR Fireball, the German Heinkel He 162 and Bachem Ba 349 Natter and the British de Havilland Vampire. A summing-up chapter compares the capabilities of the various jet aircraft and assesses how they would have fared had they met in combat.
