Digtsamlingen Duas stening handler om Dua Khalil Aswad, en 17-arig kurdisk yazidisk pige. Digtene beskriver, hvordan hun omringet af hundredvis af maend pa grusomste vis blev stenet til dode af sine naere mandlige familiemedlemmer og slaegtninge pa Bashikas Plads i Irak den 17. april 2007. I familiens ojne var Duas utilgivelig synd, at hun havde forelsket sig i en mand udenfor klanen. En mand, der tilhorte en anden stamme og religion. Filmklip fra steningen fandt vej til tv-stationerne og gik viralt. Selv om klippene var staerkt redigerede, chokerede de seerne verden over. Duas stening er det nok mest kendte sakaldte aeresdrab.
