A Harmony of the Gospels provides an important means for studying the four gospels at one time. The editors have geared this work to provide such an overview for those studying in a college or seminary setting. The text follows an outline of probable events in the life of Christ in chronological sequence, which enables one to see at a glance when various events occurred, the geographical location. Maps provide a means of identifying these places., This resource encourages a deeper understanding of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ by harmonizing the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John so as to assemble as many details as possible into a chronologically meaningful sequence., In a harmony of the Gospel, the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are arranged in columns, and placed so that passages from different books which occur at chronologically similar times are adjacent. Drawing on the New American Standard Bible, Robert L. Thomas provides an excellent tool for gaining a well-rounded view of the life of Jesus. A Harmony of the Gospels: New American Standard Edition draws on a tradition of Bible translation that provides a more literal translation of Greek text. Thomas includes a wealth of supplemental material, including a probable chronological sequence of Christ's life. Possible geographic locations of every event in the Harmony are provided, along with maps. There are also a number of reference tables, including a table of section cross-references and a table for finding specific passages. A series of essays close the volume, each with its own reading list for scholars who want to go more in-depth. Robert L. Thomas (PhD, Dallas Theological Seminary) is professor of New Testament at The Master's Seminary. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books and other works, including the commentaries on 1 and 2 Thessalonians in the Holt series.
