Civil Air Patrol: Search and Rescue is based on the missions, instruments, and planes of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), and is an add-on for the Microsoft Flight Simulator. Players fly similar missions to those of CAP, or have the option to create their own custom missions by using the "Mission Builder" program. The "Mission Builder" will create a scenario, search pattern, and determine the object to find. A GPS autopilot feature takes the wheel while players look for the item, and an ELT Direction Finder receives and analyzes a downed aircraft's ELT audio signals. Rec room rescuers have a choice of two Cessna 182T aircraft and a Maule MT-260 plane in which to fly their missions, and players have a chance to locate over 25 missing objects that can be accentuated by smoke and flares.<br><br>The Civil Air Patrol is a non-profit organization that has more than 57,000 members and flies more than 100,000 hours each year. The group performs 95 percent of the continental United States inland search and rescue mission, and has been on the job since the early '40s. Information about volunteering for CAP and aviation-based mission is included with the initial release of the game.
