Reviews
"Lyrical when the demand arises, Jacqueline Bernard has succeeded. . . . I read [ Journey Toward Freedom ] as I would any good popular history concerning an era about which I would like to learn more, and I learned from the author's quiet narrative ease and lucid prose." -- The New York Times Book Review "A magnificent biography of a magnificent woman, told with no strident blare of trumpets, but with a steady roll of drums." -- Publishers Weekly "Many biographies are touted as being inspiring: this one really is because the author has let the vigor, the humility, and the courage of Sojourner speak for themselves." -- Saturday Review, "Lyrical when the demand arises, Jacqueline Bernard has succeeded. . . . Synopsis
Born a slave in 1797, Sojourner Truth eventually gained her freedom and became known for her wit, her songs, and her great common sense. She electrified audiences as she championed civil rights, women's rights, prison reform, and better working conditions. In the New York Times Book Review , Richard Ellman wrote: "Quietly factual when it suits her story, but lyrical when the demand arises, Jacqueline Bernard has succeeded on nearly every account. A good popular history."

- s***m (15)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimi 6 mesiAcquisto verificatoI was pleased with the entire purchase - the price of the book was very reasonable, the shipping was free, the book was delivered on time (important bc it was for my husband's birthday!), and my husband is looking forward to reading it. The book was in a thick plastic bag within the outside packaging, so it got to me unharmed. And it is at least as described - I think the condition is a bit better than "very good". I will visit Rock Top again soon!Cordingly. David. Cochrane : The Real Master and Commander (N° 156245223387)
- 8***1 (20)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Ultimo annoAcquisto verificatoI had an excellent experience, the seller was very helpful, I was uncertain about the quality of the reprint and the seller made some photos which helped me to decide. The books are available on reasonably good prices. The book was packed perfectly and arrived without any harm. I can just recommend!Carnarvon & Carter.
