If you tried it for any other year, it won't fit without major modifications. Even if the body style is the same, there are minor differences in model years that would affect the path of the pipe, the sensor, etc. If you do have a 2006-2009, and you installed the rubber mount correctly (in BETWEEN the bracket and the car), then we guarantee it to fit, or your money back. Sorry for the trouble!
