In 2001, SCRUBS turned the "doctor drama" formula on its ear, moving stolid patients and practitioners out of their standard, soap-opera seriousness and into the wily world of single-camera comedy. The scrappy sitcom about an eager intern, J.D. (Zach Braff), offered a unique blend of broad humor and surprising heart that quickly made it a critical darling and a cult favorite. Eight seasons later, the quirky cast has grown up: J.D. is now an M.D., but he’s still flanked by the lovely but neurotic Elliot (Sarah Chalke), his best friend, Turk (Donald Faison), no-nonsense nurse Carla (Judy Reyes), and hard-ass Dr. Cox (John C.
