Bei dem Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 Objektiv für Leica handelt es sich um ein Standard-Objektiv, das vielseitig einsetzbar ist und sich für Nah- sowie Fernaufnahmen eignet. Das Voigtlander Nokton Objektiv zeichnet sich durch einen Leica M Bajonettanschluss aus, daher ist es zu vielen digitalen und analogen Spiegelreflexkameras kompatibel. Die Abmessungen des Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 Objektivs betragen 30 mm in der Länge und 55 mm im Objektivdurchmesser bei einem Gewicht von 175 g. Es handelt sich bei dem Voigtlander Nokton um ein Objektiv mit nicht veränderbarer Festbrennweite, deren Wert bei 40 mm liegt. Die Naheinstellgrenze für Aufnahmen mit dem Objektiv von Voigtlander liegt bei 70 cm. Aufgebaut ist das Standard-Objektiv von Voigtlander aus 7 Linsen, die in 6 Gruppen angeordnet sind. Das Objektiv zeichnet sich zudem durch 10 verschiedene Blendeneinstellungen aus, dadurch kann die Belichtungsintensität einer Aufnahme mit dem Voigtlander 40mm f/1.4 individuell ausgewählt werden. Die kleinste Blende hat eine Größe von 1/22 und bei der größten handelt es sich um eine f/1.4er. Die Linsen des Voigtlander Objektiv sind aus einem speziell beschichteten Glas gefertigt, das über eine sogenannte Multicoating Vergütung verfügt und daher die chromatische Aberration, die unschöne Farbverschiebungen verursacht, herabsetzt. Weiterhin verfügt das Voigtlander Nokton Objektiv über einen Auto-Fokus Motor, der die schnelle und präzise automatische Fokussierung einstellt, eine manuelle Einstellung des Fokus ist ebenfalls möglich.
