Die Geschichte der Pravention hat Konjunktur. Selten ist jedoch die Kommunikation von Gesundheitswissen in den Blick genommen worden; noch seltener sind Institutionen als Gegenstande gewahlt worden. Anhand des Deutschen Hygiene-Museums in Dresden sowie dem Deutschen Gesundheits-Museum in Koeln schliesst Christian Sammer diese Lucke. Quellengesattigt beschreibt er vergleichend die Entwicklungsgeschichte der Konzepte und Medien der Gesundheitsaufklarung und bettet diese ein in die Felder der Gesundheitspolitik beider deutscher Staaten. Er untersucht die Subjekt-, Erziehungs- und Ordnungsvorstellungen, die Kommunikationspraktiken sowie die personellen Netzwerke der Gesundheitsaufklarung in ihrer deutsch-deutschen Verflechtung. Nach der anfanglich Rekonstruktion alter Erfolgsmodelle gerieten die beiden Museen jedoch in existenzielle Krisen. Aus diesen ging letztlich zum Ende der 1960er nicht nur der neue sozialwissenschaftlich reflektierte Modus der Gesundheitserziehung hervor; es entstanden auch zwei Behoerden der Gesundheitsaufklarung. Die Studie bereichert damit nicht nur die Geschichte der Pravention. Sie informiert ebenfalls Gesundheitswissenschaftler und Praktiker der Gesundheitsaufklarung, die mehr wissen moechten uber die Gewordenheit ihrer Profession.
