As one of the most frequently syndicated situation comedies in television history - and reportedly one of the major influences on such later series as SEINFELD - THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO SHOW (1951-3) drew enormous audiences with a format that was essentially an excuse to set up some of the titular comedy team's best-known and loved gags. It had Bud Abbott and Lou Costello playing "themselves," as unemployed actors sharing an apartment in a rooming house, surrounded by nutty neighbors; many episodes found Costello undertaking one crazy get-rich-quick scheme or another, which invariably blew up in the pair's faces. This collection offers six of the best-known and loved episodes from the program. Included are: THE MUSIC LOVERS, THE CHARITY BAZAAR, HUNGRY, THE ACTOR'S HOME, THE DENTIST'S OFFICE and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY. Highlights include such routines as "Who's on First," "The Lemon Bit" and "Alexander 4444."
