The animated adventures of Jem and her band The Holograms captivated audiences in the 1980s. By day Jem was known as Jerrica Benton, owner of a foster home for girls that specialized in music. Her dark secret, however, was her alter ego Jem, a character made possible by projecting a holographic image over herself via some magical earrings. Jem and her musical group (Kimber, Aja, and Shana) strove to dominate the charts, but faced some formidable opposition from their fierce rivals The Misfits.
