Recruit as many as you can to save the world from a nightmarish portal that threatens to swallow the Earth whole."Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey" was released by Atlus for the Nintendo DS console in 2010. You are part of a special group of agents from the UN sent to investigate a terrifying, mysterious spatial distortion called the Schwarzwelt. Cruel creatures reside there, whose only goal in life is to fight. And in true JRPG form, you take the fight directly to them in your valiant quest to save the Earth and all humanity.This single-player RPG is told entirely from the first-person perspective. You play as an unnamed protagonist who can summon a demon in battle to help defeat other monsters. The protagonist's Demonica suit can be opened to further explore the story. The top screen of the DS displays the 3D environment, which you navigate while you're in Schwarzwelt. The bottom screen is a 2D map of the area, highlighting unopened chests and already explored areas. Other characters you meet along the way will send you on side quests to explore new regions, find more items, and further unravel the mystery of this dark story.Combat in "Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey" focuses on turn-based random encounters, much like a typical JRPG. Your party of four and three chosen demons take on enemies that try to impede your progress. Critical high-force attacks and exploiting the enemy's weaknesses are crucial combat techniques in gameplay as they allow you to do a follow-up secondary attack. Your enemies will follow this style too, so play carefully.Recruiting demons plays a significant role in both the plot and the gameplay mechanics of "Strange Journey." A new demon can be made by a fusion of several others, passing along abilities, spells, and other traits that will help you in battle. These newly formed demons can be shared with other players with a special character password. There are 300 recruitable demons available in this game, most of which are figures from world religions and ancient mythologies, such as Norse, Egyptian, and Judeo-Christian. Pay close attention to the phases of the moon in the game when recruiting demons. Full moons will make a demon more aggressive and unwilling to talk, and even your character's behavior will determine how they feel towards you. Each demon responds differently to a lawful, neutral, or chaos alignment, and they may even ignore your commands if you stray too far into any of these directions.With a diverse cast of characters, including an advanced AI computer, angels, and avatars of powerful gods, "Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey" offers an exceptional JRPG experience. This game is rated M for blood, violence, language, partial nudity, and sexual themes.
