Synopsis
Born to drunken parents in the slums of Paris, Nana lives in squalor until she is discovered at the The tre des Varietes. She soon rises from the streets to set the city alight as the most famous high-class prostitute of her day. Rich men, Comtes and Marquises fall at her feet, great ladies try to emulate her appearance, lovers even kill themselves for her. Nana's hedonistic appetite for luxury and decadent pleasures knows no bounds - until, eventually, it consumes her. Nana provoked outrage on its publication in 1880, with its heroine damned as 'the most crude and bestial sort of whore', yes the language of the novel makes Nana almost a mythical figure- a destructive force preying on a corrupt society., French realism's most beguiling femme fatale, Nana crawled from the gutter to ascend the heights of Parisian society, devouring men and squandering fortunes along the way. Her corruption reflects the degenerate state of the Second Empire and her story -- a classic of French literature -- is among the first modern novels., Prompted by his theories of heredity and environment, Zola set out to show Nana, "the golden fly," rising out of the underworld to feed on society--a predetermined product of her origins. Nana's latent destructiveness is mirrored in the Empire's, and they reflect each others' disintegration and final collapse in 1890. Built around the book's scientific skeleton is a powerful, sensual atmosphere, and a rich use of words which elevate the novel beyond the realistic platform into a "poem of male desires."

But actually it was in pretty good shape for my standards, I was surprised. Furthermore the book was sent in a cardboard box to protect it from damage during shipment. This box was evidence of the seller's intent to deliver a good product and I will definitely be going to this seller before other in the future.

- h***3 (533)- Feedback lasciato dall'acquirente.Mese scorsoAcquisto verificatoHit & miss shipping. Quick customer service response. Requested cardboard mailer for softcover book when buying, was to be a gift. Their shipping is the same if it is a cardboard mailer or a bubble mailer, $3.99. The book arrived damaged, bubble mailer torn. They offered a discount for damaged book & missing shipping request. I accepted but still disappointed, as I will have to buy it again. Last week different order was shipped in cardboard mailer item, arrived perfect no damage as described.
