In this fantasy role-playing adventure based on a real time (15th century) and a real place (greater Germany), Darklands creates a dark and mysterious environment in which people believed in myths, superstitions and the possibility of magic. Using a character generation system or pre-generated characters, you lead a party of four (although you can create many more) on a perilous journey through an ominous land. <br><br>As an adventurer in this medieval land, you'll encounter unscrupulous robbers, powerful religious tyrants, savage beasts, satanic cults and many other nightmarish creatures of dark origin such as witches, sorcerers, dragons and demons. A vast world map (basically the Holy Roman Empire) containing more than ninety cities, a myriad of creepy locations and real time combat (with an option to pause to update orders for your party) are just a few of the features of this detailed game. <br><br>All aspects of basic role-playing from initial outfitting to assigning and monitoring character attributes to attaining up to 11 levels of fame (the main objective in this open-ended journey) are at the heart of this RPG. Darklands uses a point-and-click interface with keyboard equivalents. Timekeeping, money, travel and alchemy all reflect realistic Middle Age conventions in this fantasy adventure where your characters strive for fame and fortune.
