The team hasn't won a championship for over a hundred years, so the American team owner (Michael Keaton) acquires star player Jackie McQuillan (real life soccer pro Ally McCoist) to increase the team's chances of winning. To complicate matters, womanizing Jackie is in a failing marriage to McLeod's daughter. But the team must learn to work together, because if they don't have a winning season, it is likely that the club will be permanently moved to Ireland.
