It's not universal, it won't work in any USB-C port. Seems like it has to be an Apple USB-C port. In other ports, will get message to plug it into a Thunderbolt port even when it was in one.

Thank God these folks fill that need, and they do it excellently. The drive appears brand new; it was safely packed and quickly shipped, the communication was perfect, the price was excellent, and I am delighted. They have my highest recommendation.
