Synopsis
This text concentrates on building an understanding of hydraulics and surface water hydrology as used in everyday civil engineering practice of stormwater management. Introduction to the basic concepts of fluid mechanics lead to the understanding of pipe, channel and stream flow. It covers the design of storm sewers, culverts and detention basins. A careful analysis follows with runoff calculations using the Rational and SCS Methods. This includes practice in delineating drainage basins on actual topographic maps..Many examples and case studies clarify the principles presented to provide a realistic approach to typical design situation. Computations utilize actual design manuals in an extensive appendix. .
