NotesOn September 6th and 7th of September 2012, Jazz vocalist Jd Walter embarked on recording his 7th CD at Systems Two recording studio in Brooklyn New York. With Long time musical compatriot Orrin Evans producing, and Eric Revis co/producing, JD, for the first time gave the musical decision making process up to veteran musical icons to groundbreaking results. With Orrin Evans on piano, Eric Revis on bass, Nasheet Waits on drums and Parisian Marc Ducret on guitar (and guest Guitarist Marvin Sewell on one track), no greater and adventurous configuration of musicians could be assembled for JD's undertaking then these gentleman. Add to that mix Katsuhiko Naito at the helm engineering this project was icing on the cake. One of the main ideas of this recording was group improvisation and group mindset, verses a band that accompanies. JD Could have chosen no better group for this, as all it's member are part of the inventive, one of a kind group, Tarbaby, known for collective thought, no fear, and containing the true spirit of improvisation. Some of the unique dynamics of this recording lay in the fact that aside from JD's original compositions, half of the repertoire was chosen by the producers. In an attempt to get JD out of his comfort zone, some of the takes, even forms or instrumentation of his original compositions were not known to him until recording time. The process produced results unlike that of any of his previous releases and hopefully will reflect the true nature of this great art form we call jazz.
