Synopsis
From the revolutionary discoveries of Galileo and Newton to the mind-bending theories of Einstein and Heisenberg, from plate tectonics to particle physics, from the origin of life to universal entropy, and from biology to cosmology, here is a sweeping, readable, and dynamic account of the whole of Western science. In the readable manner and method of Stephen Jay Gould and Carl Sagan, the late Brian L. Silver translates our most important, and often most obscure, scientific developments into a vernacular that is not only accessible and illuminating but also enjoyable. Silver makes his comprehensive case with much clarity and insight; he locates science as the apex of human reason, and reason as our best path to the truth. For all readers curious about--and especially those perhaps intimidated by--what Silver calls "the scientific campaign up to now" in his Preface, The Ascent of Science will be fresh, vivid, and fascinating reading.

I absolutely love this store. The books I ordered were as described, wonderful condition and all imperfections were listed in the description. The packaging was out of this world. Each book was carefully wrapped in tissue paper, then further wrapped in bubble wrap. Additionally each book was stabilized by a carton and placed in the shipping box. There were some issues with shipping from the USPS side but the vendor called them and they arrived short after. The value was better than other vendors

Book exactly as described, and superfast shipping. Best part was the absolutely brilliant packaging, shipped in a protective box, wrapped in tissue paper, then in bubble wrap. So nice to receive the item in undamaged condition because the seller went to the extra trouble and expense to ensure that it reached me safely. Added to favorite sellers. Thanks!!!!!!

Fair price, item just as described. Also, HANDS DOWN the BEST packing job I've ever seen from a book dealer. Product was packed the way an item from a factory floor might be packed: the book first wrapped in layers of tissue paper and bubble wrap, neatly sealed with tape, and then shrink-wrapped within new, clean, padded cardboard that was in turn surrounded by packing paper inside *another* new, clean box. I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase and HOPE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THE SELLER AGAIN.
