However, even using the gain function, the signal strength lights did not give me the best direction to maximize signal strength for long distance transmissions with obstructions. I should have bought a more expensive device with a more sensitive meter. The included battery was a dud. Glad I tested the unit before I went up on the roof.

The battery was wrapped in cello and did not leak, so all is well. It just sat on the shelf a while, not the fault of the seller or maker.
