Originally released in 1998, the AMD K6-2 with RISC86 core boasts an elegant design and was groundbreaking among early PC technology upon its introduction. That’s because this chip was the first to incorporate 3DNow! technology, a feature introduced by AMD. This compact CPU works well with modern 3D graphics accelerators, and the combination not only improves 3D processing power, but also adds more realism to Windows computing. An innovation in PC computing at that time, the now retro AMD K6-2 processor with RISC86 core features 4GB of physical memory, a frequency of 350 MHz, and a bus speed of just 100 MHz. The 100 MHz bus speed of this chip was a 50 percent increase over the MHz of previous processors, and because it used the same CPU frequency, it offered a 10 percent increase in performance—ideal for power users who want to get the most out of their PC and need something that can handle intensive computing tasks. Because the AMD K6-2 processor uses a Super 7 socket, it’s compatible with older motherboards and desktop PCs. Plus, while the AMD K6-2 processor with RISC86 core and 128KB cache is a vintage piece of equipment, it’s compatible with nearly any type of modern multimedia software and applications, such as video and music players.
