Appears to be made from a gourd, a large animal horn, possibly a water buffalo, bound together with leather. Strung with four strings, plays like a harp. Very unique piece. Age unknown. Country of origin Africa, possibly the Congo.

Also known as a "Tennessee Music Box". I am guessing 1920's - 1950's ?. Has a good sound to it. The necks are built at an angle, sloping downward from the strum hollow, to the nut / tuners end. The total height, at the tallest ends of the necks are 1-3/4" above the top surface.

Strings are german steel strings and have varied thickness's for a more enriched sound. A custom sound hole cover is inserted into the middle for a more defined look.

This lap harp is stamped Made in USSR.
