"Rich and gorgeous. This is the [translation] to read… and if you are flying, just carry it under your arm as you board, or better still, rebook your holiday and go by train, slowly, page by page." -Jeanette Winterson, The Times (London) "[A] magnificent story… marvelously captured in this new unabridged translation by Julie Rose." - The Denver Post "A new translation by Julie Rose of Hugo's behemoth classic that is as racy and current and utterly arresting as it should be." - Buffalo News (editor's choice) "Vibrant and readable, idiomatic and well suited to a long narrative, [Julie Rose's new translation of Les Miserables ] is closer to the captivating tone Hugo would have struck for his own contemporaries." -Diane Johnson "A lively, dramatic, and wonderfully readable translation of one of the greatest 19th-century novels." -Alison Lurie "Some of us may have read Les Miserables back in the day, but… between Gopnik and Rose, you'll get two introductions that will offer you all the pleasures of your college instruction with none of the pain." - The Agony Column (trashotron.com), "Rich and gorgeous. Synopsis
Few novels ever swept across the world with such overpowering impact as Les Mis rables. Within 24 hours, the first Paris edition was sold out. In other great cities of the world it was devoured with equal relish. Sensational, dramatic, packed with rich excitement and filled with the sweep and violence of human passions, Les Mis rables is not only superb adventure but a powerful social document. The story of how the convict Jean-Valjean struggled to escape his past and reaffirm his humanity, in a world brutalized by poverty and ignorance, became the gospel of the poor and the oppressed., Few novels ever swept across the world with such overpowering impact as Les Misérables. Book arrived today, 2 days before deadline given by the seller. Well-packaged & in good condition. Price was very competitive, & the book was accurately listed. Great communication. I appreciate the seller getting back to me when I was having trouble tracking the book's delivery progress. Apparently there were 2 different tracking numbers - one in Canada & the other in the U.S., since it was initially shipped from Canada. Thank you very much for your quick response & helpful information.

Seller handles a massive inventory so I give them grace on the slow processing and shipping. They were very communicative and prompt with their response when I messaged in asking about it. Book was in good condition as described. Small ding on the page edges which wasn't mentioned, but that's fairly common even at your typical book store. Still a good value and I'd buy from them again.

The first item arrived with some damage to the inside back cover, but the seller responded immediately, assuring me they’d provide a replacement, and even told me I could keep the original. They were upfront about a short delay, and gave a clear estimated ship date, and followed up right on time once it shipped. The replacement arrived in perfect condition and exactly as described. I really appreciated their transparency and professionalism. Would definitely buy from them again!
