SynopsisTIME ON THE INSIDE will bring an awareness of Why So Many Women Are Going To Prison and What Goes On Inside If You're One Of Them --Why the Penal System promotes comfortability rather than rehabilitation--Why inmate deaths occur often--Why it's important for society to care about prisoner's rights and compassion and How Life can be renewed while in and after prison., Since the early 1980s, the California Department of Corrections - CDC has been involved in the largest prison-building program in the United States. The CDC Master Plan predicts that the growing inmate population will exceed close to 180,000 by 2010 from its current inmate population of over 165,000. The last CDC population's projections were done in spring 2005 which show women currently make up 14% of this amount with over 12,000 women in prison today as opposed to the 8,000 - 10 years ago when I left. With so many women suffering from mental, physical and emotional abuse from all walks of life, which have plagued them into criminal behavior that stems back to the age of 12 for some, it doesn't surprise me that the CDC projection for 2006 will increase to 13,500 - over 12% within one year. When you compound that with the average yearly inmate cost of $31,000 and the Prison Industry Association - PIA which profits from Major U.S. Companies while using cheap prison labor to make their goods, you have a multi-million dollar industry that doesn't help to rehabilitate individuals that ultimately want change, as many come out and go right back in because the system is not set-up to rehabilitate nor does the system provide adequate healthcare which has resulted in inhumane conditions and treatment which has led to many deaths of women who knew they were given time on the inside and expected to be released back into society, not a morgue.
