By the start of Spider-Man 3 for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) things have been going well for Peter Parker. Having got the girl and finally won over the hearts and minds of New York City, it looks like everything is going to be okay. Even super villains have been thin on the ground since Doc Ock was defeated in Spider-Man 2. In fact, things may be going a little too smoothly. Join Spider-Man in his third big outing on the PS2 as he tackles New York City’s increasing gang problem. Following much the same plot as next-gen versions for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PC, this PlayStation 2, PSP, and Wii version of Spider-Man 3 plunges Spider-Man right back into the action with a terrorist attack by the H-Bombers. Swing through the Story missions to meet iconic characters and take on 10 of Spider-Man’s most infamous foes. Drawing on material from the comics as well as the games and movies, villains include Venom, Sandman, and The Lizard, along with a number of others who appear exclusively in the PlayStation 2, PSP, and Wii versions of the game. Engage in mini-games to help the NYPD keep the city’s crime wave under control. Fail to help out enough and the gangs take over, negatively impacting the feel of the dynamic city environment. Also choose to accept or reject varied side missions (ranging between taking down muggers to delivering pies) through a unique radio system. And, as in Spider-Man 2, unlock powers and abilities with Hero Points earned in game. For the first time, take on the mantel of the Venom-style Black-Suited Spider-Man for intense new abilities and powers. Unlike on the next-gen versions of the game for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, in the PS2 version Peter Parker can switch between the black and classic Spidey suits at will, but only for a limited duration. When the time’s up, Peter Parker must struggle to remove the black suit through a mini-game of increasing difficulty, or fail the mission he used it for. Enjoy more freedom in Spider-Man 3 for the PS2 than ever before in a Spider-Man video game with a detailed and wide open rendition of New York City, reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto games. Swing through the streets and leap across rooftops to find the game’s collectible Meteorites between Story missions and, after completing the Spider-Man 3 story, collect all 50 Spider Emblems to unlock the black suit for good. Spider-Man 3 for the PS2 promises a cinematic gameplay experience, with battle music and a narrative script voiced by actors from the movies and other games, including Tobey Maguire, James Franco, Kirsten Dunst, Topher Grace as Venom and Thomas Haden Church as Sandman. A popular video game since its original release date in 2007, Spider-Man 3 for the PS2 has also seen releases and remakes from Activision across a range of next-gen and specialist platforms, including the PS3, Nintendo DS, and Wii.
