They literally put an empty, flimsy children's toy box as a spacer for a package containing professional A/V equipment. They were unapologetic about the packing, claimed the toy box was a good method and asked if I able to re bend of the equipment . The spacer box helps to take up additional vertical space to keep the product from moving if the carrier turns the package upside down during transit. The damage on the product was not caused by or was anywhere near the spacer box, and had nothing to do with it. The freight carrier appears to have dropped the package on its side and caused minor damage during transit.
