Description: This is the newest revision and fixes issues with the last board. This breakout board pairs an SP3485 RS-485 transceiver with an FT232RL USB UART IC to convert a USB stream to RS-485. The SP3485 is a half-duplex transceiver, so it can only communicate one way at a time, but it can reach transmission speeds of up to 10Mbps.

The RTS pin of the FT232RL is connected to the transmit and receive enable inputs of the SP3485, this line is used to control the transmission mode of the RS-485 transceiver. With the proper drivers installed, the FT232RL will enumerate as a virtual COM port; the drivers are available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

This breakout board includes the SP3485, FT232, TX/RX/RTS LEDs, Mini-B USB connector, filter capacitors, and other components shown on the schematic. We've broken out the RS485 output to three different connections: (1) an RJ-45 connector, (2) a 3-pin 3.55mm screw terminal, and (3) a 3-pin 0.1" pitch header; none of these output connectors come populated.

 1. Shipping
Items are shipped from our secured warehouse.
Orders entered before 1pm are usually dispatched the same day. Otherwise they are dispatched the next day.

 . UK deliveries: UK orders are delivered using either RoyalMail First Class (for small size / low price parcels) or Parcelforce for all other. Typical delivery time is 1-2 working days.
 . International deliveries: Shipping costs are calculated based on the weight and destination of the package. Items are sent insured with Airsure or Parcelforce. For small value items we use Airsure; for higher value items we use Parcelforce.com (handled by GLS and EMS in most countries) which offers tracking information. Typical delivery time is 4-5 days.

 2.  Returns
In accordance with the UK Distance Selling Regulations, if you experience any problems with the items received or in the unlikely event that any kit parts are missing or damaged, we will replace the items or you may return the goods and receive a full refund. Buyer will assume costs for returned shipping.

 3.  Payment
We can accept payments by Paypal, Cheque (UK only), Credit & Debit Cards, or by Bank Wire Transfer (BACS/SWIFT/IBAN..).

 4.  VAT and other taxes
VAT (Value Added Tax) of 17.5% will be charged if customer address is in the UK or if customer address is in another member state of the European Union. If shipping address is not an EC member country or if customer provides us with a European company VAT registration number, please contact us to receive VAT exemption.
Items are shipped from our UK warehouse therefore there are no risk of customs import duties and taxes in EU.
