Oblong quarto, original beige cloth, paper cover label, with original cloth slipcase. Tan endpapers and pastedowns. Print in original envelope, laid in. First edition of the commemorative exhibition catalogue of 114 of Adams' photographic images, accompanied by a separate photographic duotone, "Aspens, Dawn," with facsimile signature. Size of the print is 13 x 11 inches. "Ansel Adams at 100," directed by John Szarkowski and published in conjunction with the Adams exhibition staged by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2001. With text by the legendary curator, John Szarkowski has painstakingly selected what he considers Adams' greatest work and has attempted to find the single best photographic print of each. He notes, 'It includes many photographs that will be unfamiliar to lovers of Adams' work, and a substantial number that will be new to Adams scholars.' The first major critical re-evaluation of Adams' work since his death in 1984. Presented on the centenary of his birth. It drew largely from the first part of Adams' career, the 1920's and 1930's, and situated his well known works within the context of his own world, a world that was "not an illusion, not an invention of the imagination, but rather a real world." New and sealed. Still in shrink wrap. However, the shrink wrap is torn in a few places, at the upper left hand corner, the lower left hand corner and the bottom edge. Incredible photographs.
